Full Statement by Alicia Roy
Alicia Roy is a visual artist based in London and born in Spain. Her creative spirit drove her to study fashion design (IED Madrid) and fine arts (Universidad Complutense Bellas Artes) in Madrid. In 2008 she travelled to Berlin, where her artistic production started, getting involved in diverse creative projects. Art has taken her to Torino, Madrid, Chicago, Quito, Vietnam (Hoa Binh and Hue), Colombo and now London.
She has been involved in solo exhibitions, social projects, site-specific pieces, theatre plays, musicals and short-movies. She received a grant to go to Quito (Ecuador) to carry out a site-specific project at the No Lugar gallery. “Archaeology of Ashes” one of her projects back in 2013 has been granted with the INICIARTE Award.
Since living in London for the past 3 years, Alicia has been part of group exhibitions in spaces such as Old School Room, TriGallery Space, Asylum Church Peckham and the project "You are Here" organised by Camden Arts Centre’s Front of House Volunteers. Recently she has been selected by Desencaja to show her piece "Fake Shake" in 2015, MálagaCrea2015 with "Parrot" being part of the collective exhibition at the CAC Contemporary Museum of Málaga and she will be attending the Colombo Art Biennale in Sri Lanka in November 2016.
